Palace Backpackers (1800 676 340):
Corner of Ann Street and Edward Street
The only hostel in the city centre, this backpackers is extremely resourceful and a great place to meet people. In the main area is a tour desk where you can book future tours or hostels. Also in the main reception is e-mail/internet access, phone boxes which immediately connect you to one of the main international phone companies, and a job desk. On the other floors are communal tv rooms, numerous toilets/showers and laundry rooms. Then downstairs is Brisbane's most popular backpackers nightspot, the Down Under Bar. This hostel really has it all. Beds in dorms of 5, 6, 7 or 9 cost $20 per night. Dorms of 3/4 cost $23. They also give 4 night and weekly deals

Brisbane Backpackers Resort (1800 626 452):
110 Vulture Street, West End
This hostel has five kitchens so make sure and stay here if you like cooking! There is also a licenced bar, a games room and, for health freaks, a pool, sauna and tennis courts. Rooms are ensuite and come with TV, fridge, balcony and security lockers. It is a short bus journey out of the city, and buses run regurlarly. 4 bed dorms cost $20, 6 bed dorms $19 and 8 bed dorms $16
