Things to do:

Canoe down Katherine Gorge:
It would be a real shame to stop in this small town and not go canoeing down the gorge. Some of the rapids can be a bit tricky to get through but when you do and finally paddle round the next corner the view down the gorge is breathtaking. Springvale Canoe Hire depart from Springvale Boat Jetty and charge $11 for one hour in a double, $16 for two and $21 for 4 hours.

Nitmiluk National Park:
The river is part of this national park, and is only one of the park's attractions. There are some excellent bush walks to do, if that appeals to you more than canoeing. Or why not swim in the gorge if you don't know want to paddle. Don't worry - the crocs there don't bite (they're freshies!). Travel North (1800 089 103) have shuttle buses running from Katherine to the park for $15 return daily.

Breathless views are found all down the gorge
