Things to do:

Jet Ski:
One of the best ways to see Magnetic Island. Magnetic Jet (07 4778 5533) charge $115 for a half day self drive jet ski tour of the island. Over the half day approximately 85kms are covered. Apparently one of the must-dos on the island.

Rent a Moke:
A moke is a great way to travel around all the different bays on the island. Make sure and have your licence with you, as without it you won't be allowed rent one of these four-seater vehicles out. Moke Magnetic (07 4785 5377) have Australia's largest fleet of mokes. A flat rate for renting out the moke is standard and then you are charged a certain amount for every kilometre you drive.

Dive/Snorkel:
Maggie Island is another popular place to do dive courses due to its situation in the Great Barrier Reef. Like Airlie Beach and Cairns, there are too many diving schools to mention them all. If you want to a cheap diving course, Pleasure Divers (07 4778 5788) do backpacker specials from the $179 mark.

The best places for snorkelling are at Florence Bay along the rocks on the right or southern side. Most of the bays on the eastern side of the island have fringing reef.

Walk:
With over 25 km of walking track on Magnetic Island there loads of walks to choose from. The best of these is the Forts Walk which begins at Radical Bay. This walk goes up a hill where soldiers had there lookouts during the World War I. There are magnificent views of Florence Bay and many wild koalas inhabit the area on the way up to the lookout. The walk is 2km and takes about 1.5hrs return.
