If you are not a beach person , you will probably enjoy travelling in the Northern Territitories more and than either of the coasts. Some of the places and sights you can see travelling from Darwin to Alice Springs are not to be found anywhere else in the world, nevermind Australia.

Accommodation:

Flats aren't as easy to find in NT, but like all other things if you look hard enough you will find one. Facilities in Darwin's hostels are excellent. This is reflected in the price as they slightly more expensive than others. NT's other main town, Alice Springs, also has well-run hostels and they aren't as expensive. Two other towns, Katherine and Tennant Creek, also have hostels catering for travellers.

Places To Go:

Darwin:
With a population of just over 85,000, Darwin isn't the biggest city in the world. Over the last few years it has become more and more popular with backpackers due to attractions such as Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks.

Kakadu:
One of Australia's biggest National Parks is World Heritage Listed for both natural and cultural reasons. This is quite rare and makes Kakadu one of Australia's must-do's.

Katherine:
A small town which is used by many as a stop-off for those breaking the long journey on the Stuart Highway. Home to Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park.

Katherine - Alice Springs:
In between two of Northern Territories' biggest towns are some of Australia's best, and weirdest sights. All are well worth stopping for.

Alice Springs:
Northern Territories second biggest city. The stop-off destination for trips to Uluru (Ayer's Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas).

Work:

It's not the number one destination to go and look for work in Australia. Hostels are a good place to look for work.

Going Out:

Darwin has a cracking nightlife and is always full of groups coming back from 3-day trips in Kakadu. Same applies in Alice Springs.
