Work:

The most important thing to do before you start looking for work is attain a Tax File Number (T.F.N). Until you get this number you will be taxed at the rate of 47%, as opposed to 29% which is the standard rate for travellers on a working visa.

A working holiday visa entitles the bearer to work with any one employer for three months. Travellers generally believe the main reason for this is to promote travelling around the country. The main reason for this is to make sure that a temporary resident doesn't hold down a job which an unemployed resident could.

In major cities such as Sydney and Brisbane work is easier to find. The best way to find work is to register with agencies who are mainly looking for temporary staff. Agencies will always require a copy of your passport and working visa to ensure that you are legal to work in the country. It is also an advantage to have some references with you.

In more outback regions there is always work fruit-picking. Check for a crops season before making your way to the town where it grows. You could arrive in Australia's biggest sugar cane region only to discover that the season is over for six months. Not nice.
